Pulling the plug on Preso

I have been using Red5 to realtime video/audio streaming apps ever since I started building things with Flash. It’s been more than 10 years by now and what a spectacular time it has been. However, all good things come to an end.

My last personal Red5 project -called Preso– has been running for several years now. In that time it hosted a little over 1000 presentations to about 4500 people. I’m blown away by the success it has had. However, the usage isn’t as high as it was about 6 months ago and it’s in a steady decline.

Since the rise of iPhone and the beginning of the end for Flash, I have done less work using Flash. Also my interests started shifting towards Javascript and motion graphics. As a result of all that, I haven’t been creating an awful lot with Red5 anymore. It also doesn’t help that I’m doing a bit of server cleanup.

I guess it’s time to pull the plug on Preso and the whole Red5 server running on my machine. I wanted to post a go-down date but quite honestly, I think it’s time to end things and there’s no need to drag this out.
I just want to thank the Red5-team that created this amazing piece of free open-source software that enabled all of us to create such cool things when the only other way to do this was via expensive alternatives. Thank you so much!

For those of you who enjoyed Preso and would like to get the binaries or the source files, shoot me an email and I’ll see if I can dig them up. 🙂
