I know, it’s only February 3rd. However, I will read this at the end of this year and see if I matched my expectations. Since I felt seriously bad about 2013, I think this is only a better chance to make 2014 so much more awesome.
So what do I want to achieve in 2014?
Get some big, cool projects and totally nail them
I hope to get some great clients with some cool projects. Completing cool projects gives some kind of a rush. I’m totally looking forward to experience that as much as I can this year.
Blog more. So do more.
I would like to blog more. I really enjoy writing about my endeavours and sharing it with the world. I also like looking back and reading what I was doing years ago. 2012 and 2013 didn’t exactly provide me with lots of stuff to look back on. That’s partly because not a lot happened and I don’t want this blog to be a collection of stories about last week’s dinner etc. I want to have something here that’s worth sharing. Worth reading. So in order to achieve that, I need to do more to enable me to blog more. That’s a double whammy, right there.
Do more teaching
I did a few workshops on jQuery last year and I really enjoyed it. I always enjoyed teaching new things to people. Not only does it give me this feeling of satisfaction, it motivates me to start learning new things as well. So awesome!
Last summer, I started actively skating again. I had a blast and I really liked it. So as soon as the weather starts improving I’m counting on heading out again on my board. By the end of the year I’d like to be able to do some pretty badass moves again. And ideally: Make a little skatevideo.
Make more videos
I catch myself time and time again filming things and then not making actual videos about it which is too bad because they make great memories. So this year, I’m forcing myself to at least try. Even if it sucks. So there should be at least some activity on my Youtube account…
Make more people laugh
I worked at an Apple Store last year and my favourite memory about the clients is that I was always able to put a smile on their face. That’s a great feeling when people walk out of the store while smiling. So in 2014, I will make it my mission to make more people laugh. Because, let’s be honest: Smiling/happy people can only lead to one place: World peace… So that’s what we’re aiming for.
Don’t be so ashamed
Sometimes I find myself being ashamed of things I did (or ‘currently doing‘ depending on the occasion) yet there’s no reason to do so. Because I shouldn’t care. Life’s too short to care about how stupid something might be/have been. As long as it’s fun, it should be okay… So no more being ashamed for fun stuff. But I’m never releasing the rap-songs I made when I was 17. We’re not even discussing that. Not happening, bro.
Get a tattoo
This is not some stupid idea that just popped up while I was writing this. It’s actually something I wanted to do for several years. I just keep postponing it or forgetting to set it up. By the end of the year, I’d like to have this done or never think about it again.
Become an official organ donor
This is actually something that lies dear to my heart. In Belgium there seems to be a basic opt-out version of the donor-program. You are by default an organ donor (unless otherwise stated) but the family still has to give consent in case of potential donor match. This leads to long waiting periods and families pointlessly refusing to allow this while other people are dying for no reason. I would like to make it official that I decide that my organs should be given to people who need them (if possible) without the need for any further consent in the case that I die. And so should you.
Re-invent my #everyday’s adventure.
Or do another 100-days leg. Either one will work. If you’d like to know more about the how and why about this, I wrote a lengthy version about it here.
Participate in the Midnight Run this summer and finish somewhere at the top.
During the summer, there’s a ‘Midnight Run’ being organized in Kortrijk. It’s a 10k run through the city in the middle of the night. I wanted to participate last summer but had to drop out because I seriously hurt my ankle skateboarding. So this year I’d like to participate. I have always been a runner. It clears my mind and challenges my willpower. I have run 10k on many occasions in the past but it’s been a while since I did some serious running so I’ll need to start training again before I make it to 10k. So while the challenge is not much, I only have about 5 months to actually get there and be enough in shape so I can finish somewhere at the top of the finisher’s list. Ideally first. And then all of a sudden, 10k seems like a tall order.
Spoil my girlfriend
She’s amazing. She has supported me on so many occasions, I lost count. She deserves to be properly thanked for that and being spoiled with all kinds of cool things. She reads my blog, so I can’t really go into much detail about how I’m planning to do that… So if you care: Follow her on Twitter.
Inspire more people
Near the end of 2013, a lot of people started getting in touch with me to talk about the way I approach #everydays or how I go about other stuff in life. It felt great reading about these people that are doing things because they saw me do it or felt inspired to do it because of something I said. Afterwards they sent me their progress or completed projects and it felt awesome to see people do this. I thought that was cool, so I hope to inspire even more people in 2014. Let’s do something AWESOME!
That’s it for 2014. In a few months, I should go over this list and hopefully be able to check off every item on here.
What do you think? What are your most important goals of 2014?
