This is probably the coolest trailer I have EVER seen. I can’t tell where reality stops and CGI begins. It’s kind of a trailer for their Radio Soulwax thing! And you know what? It worked! I’ve been listening to (and sometimes watching) Radio Soulwax for the last few hours and I’m loving it!

I love the way you can see the entire process of existing music being transformed into new audio goodness. Old records get dumped into The Machine which are then melted and filtered through a breathtaking lady. The endresult is what you hear on Radio Soulwax. Very very cool!

I’d love to see a ‘behind the scenes‘ of this clip. I’m so intrigued by the machines used here and I can’t stop wondering which parts are real and which ones are not. Can’t seem to find anything though. Too bad!

Another week, another clip. This one comes from another production company I have never heard of: Spy Films. It’s actually supposed to be a stereoscopic 3D ad which will be shown in theatres. The focus here is the magical blending of what is real and what is CGI. Add a deep voice, an emotional poem, some dramatic soundscapes and mindblowing slowmotion and you got yourself a 60 second ad that has you completely taken in.

I love it because it looks so real and so fake, all at the same time. The calm and romantic lighting versus the exploding foreground results in a truly dramatic setting. The poem and the soundtrack give a very emotional feel to the whole piece. It kind of carries the 2 characters through the slowmotion explosions until they meet. The cut right before the kiss is kind of a cliché… Although it’s the only cliché that would work, so it’s actually perfect.

I like this clip so much, I think I’ve watched it more than 20 times by now. It just doesn’t get boring. Every time I hit the play button, I kind of hope it just wouldn’t end. So amazingly beautiful.

This piece really look stunning. If you’re interested in how and why some things are done, here’s a short ‘making of‘ featuring exactly the kind of stuff that matters.

This trailer looks awesome. It features great effects, realistic lighting, very cool movements, motion capturing, some great music and an overload of badass-ness… Everything is in place to make sure one is interested in the actual game. The amount of detail in the clip is off the charts. That’s what sells the piece. The quality actually reminds me of Toy Story. And that’s quite a feat for small studio compared to Pixar. Absolutely awesome.

It’s a perfect blend of video and cartoon. It feels very organic. The style reminds me a bit of the one you can see in some of the episodes of The Animatrix.

The quality of the piece is extraordinary. The colors, the animation, the soundtrack, the cuts: It’s all in perfect harmony. Everything feels just right. I love this piece!

Today’s clip is called Formica, which is Italian for ant. That’s what this clip is about: Ants. It is actually a simple camera shot of some ants. As it turns out this was just a tiny test project. The result however is rocking! Sweet and fresh colors, lovely play of depth of field and ants working away like crazy. I tend to be fascinated by how ants work. I don’t know why. I just am.

What makes this piece so special is the massive amount of detail Laurent added to the scene. It’s a mix of funny characters and sketchy clouds, triangles and circles. Add a bit of color to that and some funky animation and you end up with a very entertaining way of showing an ant’s life. I love it!

It’s all about taking existing photography concepts and techniques, and applying them in video. The result is amazing. I’m pretty intrigued by how the recurring infinite spirals are done! It looks amazing! (here’s a little behind-the-scenes). I myself have been playing with the ‘little planet’ effect quite a lot (for example <a href="http://nocreativity.com/blog/world360-unbugged-and-kicking"title="World 360 unbugged and kicking" target="_blank">here), but Frank’s demoreel makes it clear that he completely mastered those techniques. And that’s what demoreels are for: Showing what you’re made off and you, sir Frank Beltrán, seem to be made of solid awesomeness.

Yes, I know, it’s been a while since I posted a cool/interesting/inspiring video on monday. Lots of stuff has happened: I moved to a new server (which led to lots of unexpected and unwanted downtime), I had to head out of town for about a month to work at a full-time non-computer related job. And I wanted to have a life for a few weeks, which was nice . All that lead to no motion on monday. However I’m back, so let’s do this!

To make up for the silence of the past weeks, I’ve got something very cool. For all of you who love Mortal Kombat: Here’s a series of 9 legacy videos I came across a few weeks ago. It was filmed and directed by Kevin Tancharoen; a name I’ve never heard of before. As it turns out he wanted to create a new movie called ‘Mortal Kombat: Rebirth‘ and went on the create <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LJQAkimXyw"title="This is the demo video, re-uploaded later on by somebody else" target="_blank" target="_blank">a demo movie in order to pitch it to Warner Brothers. However he accidentally published it on Youtube (rather than making it a private video) and the public responded with big applause. When meeting with Warner Brothers later on, they turned down the movie pitch. They agreed however to fund him for a web series. Sounds good enough to me. And here we are now…
Well, Mr. Tancharoen: You did great. Really awesome stuff!

In case you have trouble pronouncing that title: It’s a phonetical version of ‘reverse engineered’. This clip is intense, I swear. It’s full of detail. It’s full of agressive cuts, lots of post editing and color correction. I love the overexposure from the sky. Really helps the illusion of making it look real.
I don’t really know if the author is trying to tell a story here but I was fully taken in from the first second. I’m totally intrigued. What I especially love about this piece is it engages with your subconsciousness. You see so much stuff for only fractions of seconds. A lot of those cuts appear and disappear so fast, you don’t actually get the time to realize you see them but you know you did. You don’t get the time to take in the shots and form an idea about what you see. Your brain just gets overloaded with information without driving you totally nuts. Oh and on that note: If you’re susceptible to epileptic seizures… You might wanna hold off this one. For everyone else: Enjoy!
