I got Publish(ed)

Back in July the people over Publish – a Dutch magazine for digital creatives – asked me if I wanted to write a Flash workshop. The issue featuring the workshop I wrote came out earlier this week. Today I got one in the mail. I look better in magazines than I figured I would :-D

The workshop I wrote is about how to make a basic image viewer in Flash. I explain how to load an XML file, interpret the data and load the corresponding image depending on what button has been clicked.

Anyway: A few pictures! (Yes, I’m very proud…. How can you tell?)

And they featured a few of my pictures on Flickr in the magazine too! I’m really proud ^^

Anyway: I hadn’t heard about Publish before, so I was pretty curious on how they would bring the content. But now I’ve got the October issue I must say: The magazine is great. Definitely something to look into if you’re looking for a Dutch magazine focussed on digital creatives.

OSX for Dummies: How to make screenshots

I can’t believe I’m doing this (but it’s driving me crazy)…

So I’ve read (millions of times), heard (thousands of times) and seen (I don’t even want to think about it) how people keep using the standard shortcut to take screenshots on a Mac. I can’t really remember how long I did it that way but it sure as hell wasn’t long enough to remember the shortcut. Appearently it’s CMD + SHIFT + 4 for a screenshot (I had to Google this).

What I’ll be showing here is how you can remap this action to one (1) keystroke using standard built-in OSX magic. Read the rest of this entry »

Unreality

A few weeks ago school started again. One of the new classes I got is ‘Audio Visual Media Production’. That’s a fancy name for ‘After Effects and stuff’. Only 4 weeks into the academic year I felt like taking a leap… Following the crazy idea of “If you can think it, you can make it“, I took my camcorder, recorded some footage, got back to my computer and started fighting my clumsiness in After Effects. Only a few hours later I finished a first version of my experiment. I spent today continuing and finishing this experiment.

The result is pretty much what I expected (although I am pretty embarrassed about the horrible arm-in-front-of-logo-disaster. Feel free to enlighten me on how to do this without making it look this bad ;-) ). Enough words, check it out!

This is my first shot at making something look good in After Effects. If there’s anything on your mind, let me know. I could use advice and feedback ;) Read the rest of this entry »

[ Link ] I was editing this video in After Effects when all of a sudden I changed something which resulted in this warp-like effect.
