Ho ho ho!
Published by Ronny on December 25th, 2008 in General. No commentsOh yes, this is happening!
I am really posting this kind of stuff
I wish you guys a merry christmas (at least to those who are celebrating it
). Enjoy the holidays, and especially the upcoming new year (since I’m not planning on dedicating a post to that as well).
The ‘this-is-so-cool-that-I-just-had-to-share-this-with-you’-post
Published by Ronny on December 20th, 2008 in Actionscript, General. 2 commentsOr short for ‘4 Flash experiments you must have seen‘.
Normally I’m completely against all those posts listing a bunch of items that somehow relate to each other in some way, but I’ve seen a few pretty amazing things lately that I just had to share with you.
Fun with Fur
Andre Michelle posted an experiment of his a couple of weeks ago about generating fur in Flash. The results look pretty amazing. Looks like the pictures came right out of Photoshop. However he didn’t post his SWF, nor his code. So there’s no way I could use the effect on my own images. Mark Knol however did post his SWF. In fact he built a fur generator that will enable you to link to your own picture, choose the correct settings for the engine to customize the furriness to your liking and then let it render your furry picture (which you can download afterwards). Isn’t that cool? Make sure to check both of them out.

Playr 2.0 is here!
Published by Ronny on December 18th, 2008 in Actionscript, Flash, Open-source, download. 2 commentsIt almost took me an eternity, but at last it’s there: Playr 2.0 is ready.
Playr is a Flash Actionscript 3 class built to take the heavy lifting off your hands when building any kind of music player appliction in Flash, Flex or AIR. I put a lot of work and time in this project, and I think the result is amazing: Playr is hands down the easiest way to do so!
I’m very happy to finally release this. A lot of people helped me test it and gave me feedback.
That helped me a lot, and changed a lot of features. Special thanks to all of you!
I’ve put up a dedicated site for Playr where all of the information, code examples, downloads are gathered.
Head over there to read more about it!

Hotel 626
Published by Ronny on December 5th, 2008 in General. 12 comments
Yesterday, Frédérick showed me this site which, I think, really is a perfect example of a first class web experience. I’ve seen lots of sites which could’ve been easily built in simple HTML and still deliver the same experience.
This however has more of a ported Resident Evil game and is nowhere near something we used to call a ‘website’. In fact calling this ‘a website’ is kind of an insult to the people who worked on this project.
Hotel 626 aka Hotel Six-to-Six daily opens its vitual doors between 6PM and 6AM, just to make sure you’re viewing the site in the evening or even at night (and believe me: I played this in the dark, with the volume turned up, and it scared the sh## out of me!)
The cool thing about Hotel 626 is the extraordinary interactivity. I’ve seen cool things online, but this beats it all. I mean: when was the last time you had to sing a lullaby in order to progress in the game on the web?
Make sure you check this out, it’s really amazing!
